Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga has been described as an amalgamation of techniques from a variety of traditions and teachers. It is a powerful system of yoga. Anyone can practice Kundalini Yoga as long as it is done according to the original instructions and within the time frames stated. The word “KUNDALINI” means “coiled.” It refers to the divine feminine energy, shakti, that lies dormant at the base of the spine at the muladhara, or first chakra, which can be awakened through the practice of yoga.

Kundalini Yoga strengthens the nervous and endocrine systems. It promotes homeostasis. It prepares the mind for optimal clarity, enlivens your sense of awareness, and gives you greater energy to express your creativity and accomplish tasks. The focus is internal, and the effects are whole. One Kundalini Yoga class can clear the mind, set the immune system, and orient your consciousness to create balance, happiness, and health in your life.

Kundalini Yoga works with the body, breath, mantra, and sound. The kriyas, or yoga sets with inherently cleansing qualities, are pre-written. Thousands of these kriyas exist. They can consist of a series of exercises or one meditation. All exercises, meditations, and mantras within kriyas are part of an organized sequence designed to produce a specific beneficial effect. The breath and mantras are tools to help focus the mind.
